Sacraments

Weddings:

At least six months notice is normally required. Wedding ceremonies can take place here in St Teresa’s Church or in St Conal’s, Kirkconnel.
They may also take place in St Joseph’s College Memorial Chapel or at The Crichton Chapel. Please note both these Chapels need to be booked through their appropriate authorities.
Please contact Father to discuss your arrangements or use our form

Baptisms:

Baptisms are normally conducted in the parish church on a Sunday afternoon around 1.30pm. They may also take place at the Sunday Mass.
Baptism is an occasion for thanking God for the gift of your beautiful child and for gathering family and friends together to celebrate the new addition to the family.
Through Baptism you dedicate your child to the love of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and you promise to bring them to know and love God in return by living good Christian lives.
God parents support the parents in these aims.
At least one of the Godparents must be an adult who is a practicing Roman Catholic and the other(s) Christian in faith or outlook.

Reconciliation

In our diocese the children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at primary 3 level. Please see the information below entitled Sacramental Preparation of Children.

Confirmation and First Holy Communion

In our diocese the children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion at primary 4 level. The information below will explain how that preparation is done.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION OF CHILDREN (RCIC)

The Children celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation when they are of Primary 3 age and the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist normally when they are in Primary 4 at school.

Their preparation is a three-way partnership with family, school and Parish.

We are grateful to our parish primary school (St Teresa’s) for the great work they put into preparing the children of p.3 and p.4 for the reception of the Sacraments.

This year all the children of the parish, regardless of which school they attend, will prepare for the reception of the Sacraments together.

Fr Jim and Mrs Fiona Holden along with other Catechists and Youth helpers will prepare the children of the parish in the “St Teresa's Ninian Club”, which will be held on Saturday mornings in St Teresa’s Parish Hall from 11.15am till 1.15pm.

The Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion will take place at 10.30am Mass on Pentecost Sunday, 27th May 2012.

Click here for dates for the full session (2011-2012)

The children will prepare for and participate in the 10.30am Mass the following Sunday (ie: the next day) during these sessions so parents should plan to participate on both the Saturday and Sunday.

For more information please have a chat with Father or Fiona.

To enrol for the Sacramental Preparation of your child please complete and return an Enrolment Form at the back of church or download it from here.
